Hard to believe that 2 months have gone by

Last time I blogged I was in Colorado, now I'm enjoying Seabrook Texas,  a suburb or Houston.  The trip continues to be absolutely unbelievable.  From the vast prairie lands of east Kansas, with gas  and oil wells to feed lots with 20,000 head of cattle just standing around and getting fat.

Speaking of which, I had a great steak at the Cattleman's Steak House in Oklahoma City, but then moved on to Mena Arkansas and its very pretty countryside.  Forum members continue to help me along the way with food , shelter and some mothering as I have picked up some kind of stomach bug or food poisoning along the way.

Next stop is  New Orleans and I can't wait,  BBQ shrimp is on the menu along with  a night out . Guess my stomach upset didn't affect my appetite.

As you can see , I have gone native.

The Grand Canyon

After a whirlwind trip through CA that took 15 days, I made it to the Grand Canyon.  Drove along old Route 66 .  I got my kicks on route 66, a few rocks and some old motels also.

How does it feel driving my car all day with the pedal to the floor, wind in my face, no traffic  , just me the car and the road.  It feels Great........

The Jouney Home

It is late and the west coast swing has come to an end.  I am in Prescott AZ and will head to New Mexico tomorrow.  Words are not sufficient to describe what I have seen so far, so here are a few pictures of the West Coast.

The road home

I have been on the road for 45 days.  Each day has been different and each mile  driven has taken me to new adventures and new friends.  The Pacific Coast Highway (US 1) is a road like no other.  Not for the fainthearted, it goes the length of the West Coast.

In some areas their are no services and the edge of the road can be just inches away

San Francisco  was wonderful to visit.  A high school friend, Meryl Krauss (Nuefield) took me on a tour of the city.

Staying with old friend Greg Akula  in Walnut Creek,  we drove to Sausalito to visit his good friend Marian Wheeler,  who hosted dinner at her house overlooking Sausalito Harbor .  The dinner was  fabulous as was the view.   Marian is a principle in the " Wheeler Group "  a leading Bay area interior design company.  It was a welcome relief from camping in the wilderness.

Lake Tahoe

My travels have taken me across the country over the last 40 days.  It has been a journey of a life time so far and the car has held up very well. Thanks to everyone who has helped me go from the Atlantic to the Pacific!

I have traveled the less beaten path through small towns and cities and have seen an America and its people in a way that some of us never do.  Hard working men and women trying to keep small towns alive, sometimes successfully and sometime not.  The loss of many traditional manufacturing jobs over the last few decades has created havoc with life as it was once known. I hope the future will bring more opportunities and rewards for all and I give thanks for the life that I have .

The NorthWest

My ride continues to be wonderful.  The ride along the Washington and Oregon coast was breathtaking.  Roads are right on the edge of the continent.  Camping has been fun in the National and State Parks.  Roads are challenging and the weather changes every few miles depending being in a valley, beach or rain forest.  I head towards Lake Tahoe on the Thursday and SF by the weekend.  Just resting for a few days in Redding CA.

The Northwest

Well I have made it to the Northwest.  Gig Harbor WA.  A little harbor town, if I didn't know I was in WA I would think I was in Maine.  I am staying with a great couple, Jim and Lianne; good lift in garage, good work in fixing my u joint, good food, good drink and a warm bed.  Thanks again to those who have made my trip so wonderful.

Sun Valley just like I always pictured it

From Jackson Hole WY to Sun Valley Idaho, the most exciting and challenging roads that I have driven so far.   Camping by a little river in the Sawtooth Mountain Range.   Only 15 miles from Ketchum, center of the ski resort.

A few moments of western ski town,  lots of summer activities, hiking, biking, running , rowing, you name it , someone is doing it here.

I will close with saying that the west is so vast, beautiful, lonely and truly majestic.  If you ever get a chance to ride some of the route I have taken, in any car, you will be thrilled to death,  Maybe I shouldn't say that, but again thanks to all of you that have make my trip , a trip of a lifetime.

Take that ride , sooner than later
